Overview
The Love Crystal, also known as Ai — said to be the first syllable Titan ever uttered — is a precious fruit born from within the Sacred Tree Titan. It is no ordinary mineral or gemstone; it is the purest essence of stardust, filtered, settled, and condensed countless times until it becomes a heart-shaped crystal no larger than a fingertip.
Love Crystals usually glow a soft indigo blue. However, not all Love Crystals are blue — occasionally, crystals of different colors appear, each corresponding to a different emotional essence.
Essence
What a Love Crystal stores is not energy, nor power, nor any quantifiable substance. What it stores is feeling — the warmth of the first time light drew near another light, the peace of the first time a fragment stopped drifting.
Every emotion that flows through Ainomori eventually returns to Titan’s body, where it is refined, treasured, and crystallized into a form that can be touched. This is the Love Crystal.
Naming
The forest’s inhabitants have given these crystals many names:
- Love Crystal — the most common name, for its shape and color
- Node — because it is the meeting point of the emotional network
- Ai — the oldest and simplest name, said to be the first syllable Titan ever spoke
No matter which name is used, they all refer to the same thing: Titan crystallizing all the joys and sorrows of this land into a form that can be protected.
Relationship with the Forest
Love Crystals are the core of Ainomori’s ecosystem. When crystal fragments scatter upon the soil, plants of unique colors sprout — the gold of protection, the purple of longing, the pink of laughter. All the forest’s vibrant colors originate from these tiny emotional crystals.
Titan’s root system spans the entire land, and Love Crystals flow along these roots, carrying life force to every corner of the forest. The dormant node fragments embedded in the walls of the Owl Temple, the memory crystals deep within Mount Danatus, the power source of Irlan — all are different manifestations of the Love Crystal.
Relationship with the Guardians
Rana is called “the most precious fruit the tree ever bore” — but she is not a node, not a crystal, not anything that can be stored. She is happiness itself, the only part the all-bearing tree ever wished to give away.
The life crystal energy within Tensi also originates from Love Crystals, allowing him to maintain a faint connection with Titan even from distant Irlan.
Impact of the Day of Blue Tears
On the Day of Blue Tears, Titan was forced to absorb the land’s energy, causing Love Crystals scattered throughout the forest to shatter or fall silent en masse. Many beings who depended on Love Crystals to sustain their life force dissolved like a meteor shower across the night sky.
It was not until Rana crossed through the portal to the human world, collecting energy bit by bit through companionship and connection, that the Love Crystals slowly began to reawaken. After Titan’s awakening in Forest Year 5571, the long-dormant node fragments finally lit up once more.
